Watch yourselves

Postby CamaroThatCould » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:17 am

text @ 6AM from my bank... one of three account was overdrawn by $2100. I immediately called and reported fraud. Someone in MN went to BestBuy and spent about $2500... At least their enjoying their flat screen

Ofcourse, like everyone else, I have no idea how it happened. I never let anyone at a restuarant take my card away to charge it, only buy from 'legit' places online.... oh well

Maybe one of ATMs you used was compromised? Thieves used to install cameras over ATM keypad/monitor (usually built in into a wide slat so it looks pretty seamless) and they're adding an magnetic card reader in front of the card slot - this way they have the information from your card and it's pin code so they can duplicate the card and use it to draw money from your account... It was a pretty popular method of stealing from credit cards in Poland few years ago, and as far as I know - it's still working, but now most of ATMs in Poland are monitored so nobody can mess with the hardware...

This just happened to my fiance. Someone got a hold of her account number and charged 50 bucks to it at the horse race track. Quickly got it taken care of, but the bank said that all they do is try numbers until they find a set that works. It's so random that the bank says theyre impossible to catch. You just happened to be the unluckly one who they figured out what numbers to use. I hate thieves.

I have always been worrying about banks and electronics and fraud. I just dont 100% trust banks, especially in this economy(crash). and now this happens... Today is pay day, I think I'm going to just cash it and walk out with it. I should also probably empty my savings... Why should someone else hold my money....
