4th gen door handles on a 3rd gen??

Postby chevymec » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:08 pm

Has anybody tried this? When I picked up some seats today the guy did an LS1 swap to his 3rd gen and he said he was gonna swap the handles. I think it would look a lot better since it would smooth out that area.

hell no.

the easiest way to do it would to be to section the door of an s10 and weld in that section to the camaro.

i see on a lot of older cars more modern flat door handles so they dont stick out 2 feet from the door

but i have nothing against my 3rd gen door handles..

actually now that i think about it, it would be tough to put 4th gen door handles on a 3rd gen because 4th gen doors are made of smc (plastic) and 3rd gens are metal.

Why would ther make of the door make it tough to mount a handle. Ive been reading and they seem to be a direct fit.

i dont see how they could be a direct fit... the shape of the doorskin is completely different. they just wouldnt look right. If i were gonna change door handles id just do what nitemare said and weld a section in that fit the appropriate door handle

They actually do fit and are very very similar in shape. The only reason they look so different on the 4th gen is because of how they are recessed into the door skin. The handles are basically the same, just the 4th gen one does not have the recesses in the face of it like the 3rd gen. And they both are metal, not plastic.

I thought you were talking about the handles, I know the difference in the doors

I had seen it posted somewhere before that they were a direct fit, and I just happened to have a couple of those handles laying around to compare. They are a direct fit.
