What is you opinion for a dome/dish piston using a set of large port Vortec heads, 206cc version? I have always read that the vortec heads like a FT piston better.

Well, that really depends on what your goal is, if your doing a boosted app., you really have no choice but to go with a dish to get down, with a FT, your only going to get a little over 10.0 to 1 with a 0 deck, so if your cam called for more compression then you have to go wih a dome.

Thats where engine building comes in, its not about throwing parts at an engine, you have to match things, the cam abd what your CI is where you start along with your intended use. I had a guy not long ago build a LS motor and went with a deep dish piston because in the future his plan was to turbo it, I tried telling him that it wouldnt run well without the boost, well, he tried it anyways, when it wouldnt run worth a damn, someone on LS1tech got a hell of a deal on his parts.

Yeah, Im pretty set on just using a set of FT but I had just heard the vortec heads worked best with FT and I knew you had some experience with the vortecs.

actually, a flat top about gives you the best squish by design with a head, the vortecs chamber is by design to help with moving the air in and out, my next question for you is what cubic inch motor are you putting these 206 runners on, IMO anything less than a 400ci, maybe a 383 is just to much head

^ Thats fine, its all related.

Its a 383. I know that a 185 or 195 cc head might be better but Im using what I have. Its either the vortecs or the double humps off the motor I just bought. I will also have at least a 150 shot on the motor, might go up some.

GMPP . My old service manager bought a 91 short bed truck and wanted to take the TB off and put a carb on it. He ordered all the parts through GM except for the camshaft. I got the heads after the bottom end spun a few bearings after the swap. We told him that it might happen, and it did. They have made a few different versions of the heads as far as runner size from what I have found.

Got another question. Are stock SBC rods press fit or bushed and how can you tell?
