Intake System Overhaul

Oh, the joys of a Tuned Port Injection (TPI) intake system!

Back when the engine ran like complete crap, I decided, right then, that I’d tear

down the intake system and clean it up.  I noticed a few things, during that process,

that needed attention such as several vacuum lines corroded and busted intake gaskets.

The IAC valve also needed cleaning.  I took this opportunity to port the

plenum as well as get a pin-sized hole repaired in one of the water ports in the intake

manifold.

Intake manifold and valve covers

removed.  All cleaned up and ready for reassembly.  Well, at least to the best

of my ability!

Inake

manifold and valve covers installed.  I used two coats of engine enamel (aluminum)

and two coats of engine enamel (clear coat)

Fuel injectors and

fuel rail installed.  The fuel injectors were cleaned and flowmatched at CruzinPerformance.

Great place and Rich did a superb job!

It’s

getting a little late.  Thermostat and housing installed as well as the intake plenum

and runners.  Now it’s starting to look like an engine again!  The distributor

is also installed

Throttle body in

place as well as various vacuum hoses and the PCV valve and line in place.  Installed

the TPS and IAC.  Almost ready to tune her up!

And this is how she looks

today.  Well, almost.  I since, replaced the spark plug, wires cap and

rotor.  I also installed the stock ignition coil back in.  I left the Accel

alone for now.  It’s a good backup I think!  With all this said and done, click
here to hear her run with

the 3-chamber Flowmaster (which is to be replaced by the DynoMax cat-back system).  You need WinAmp

or a compatible MP3 player.  Keep in mind, it’s been nearly two years since this ride

has sounded like this, so be gentle.  She still needs more tuning to go!
