Installing a JET Type Airfoil

JET Airfoil available from Summit Racing

What is an airfoil? Simply put, all airfoils are designed with one objective in mind, better, improved airflow into the intake of the engine.  With this comes the expectation of better throttle response and claimed horsepower gains.  The JET style airfoil is the type that is better placed inside the air snorkel where it meets up with the throttle body when the air snorkel is reinstalled.  The following instructions demonstrate how to install this type of airfoil on 305/350 TPI engines.

Installing your JET type airfoil.

Start off by popping the hood and gaze at your beautiful TPI engine.  Before we get started, make sure your ignition is not on. Underneath the air intake snorkel, disconnect the connector to the MAF sensor on MAF equipped engines (1985 to 1989 TPI).
Turn each of the keylocks (3 on each side) 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to unlatch the air intake on the filter side. With a standard screwdriver, loosen the clamp on the snorkel to the throttle body.  It’s easier to just remove the entire air intake snorkel assembly and install the airfoil this way.
Place the airfoil as shown with the IAC holes at the bottom and pointed side towards the MAF.  This is very important! Press it in until it sits in the first grove on the top and bottom of the snorkel.  Install the airfoil as close to straight up and down as possible.
Reinstall the air intake snorkel to the throttle body first, being careful not to move the installed airfoil too much.  Once the snorkel is installed all of the way, the airfoil should be right up against the throttle body opening like it should be.  Once you feel comfortable with the install, tighten down the clamp on the air snorkel at the throttle body. DO NOT FORGET to reconnect your MAF (if equipped).
After placing the air intake snorkel assembly, turn each of the keylocks (3 on each side) 1/4 turn clockwise to latch the intake on the air filter side. Everything installed back like it should be.  Enjoy!
